Vegan Traveller : The Whale Tail Cafe (Lancaster)

The Whale Tail cafe is a little vegetarian cafe in the town of Lancaster nestled in Lancashire, it is connected to a health shop so therefore they aim to use local produce and organic ingredients whenever possible. A lot of the ingredients they use can be found in the shop too!

To get to the cafe you have to climb some steep stairs and enter into a little porch. Inside the cafe is simple and quaint with wooden tables and chairs and a few benches.
Looking around I did notice that the place is quite grubby and from behind the counter, the kitchen also looked very dirty!

I decided to order one of their specials,  a pitta and falafels sharing board  (minus the tzatziki). After placing my order at the till I went and sat back down and looked through their menu.
Their breakfast is quite impressive with a set option or 'build your own' one.
On their main menu, they offer things like salad platters, jacket potatoes, homity pie and pitta and hummus.

I was impressed by the fact they had a children's menu as many places that aren't vegetarian don't have kid-friendly vegetarian food and then many vegetarian establishments don't have a kids menu! It is a fairly basic menu but at least they cater for kids.

Our sharing board consisted of two wholemeal pittas (warmed), six falafels, a small portion of hummus and a VERY small salad. It cost around £7 and visually it looked good value for money. Unfortunately, the hummus was tasteless and the falafels lacked flavour, texture and had been heavily fried.

I doubt I will return :(
